In a bid to assist indigent and bright students from Ibadan, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/ South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedapo Lam-Adesina has disbursed bursary worth several millions of naira to hundreds of students from his constituency at an event which was held on Tuesday 18th of April,2017. The beneficiaries were drawn from various tertiary institutions across the country.

Organized under the Omo-Oloore Educational Support Scheme, the Lam-Adesina Bursary for Tertiary Institution Students which is done in conjunction with the Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU) is one of the initiatives designed to honour his late father, Great Lam, as the former governor of the state was fondly called, who was also the pioneer national president of FIBSU.

Speaking at an event which took place inside the Lam-Adesina Hall, Felele, the youthful lawmaker said that the gesture was in his quest to give back to the society and continue his father’s wish to ensure that the education of bright and willing students were not tampered with by financial constraints.

He reiterated that his passion and commitment to education was second to none as he has always been willing to assist the needy.

In his words: “This is the second time we will be doing this. During the last election, I came to you to solicit votes. I promised to set up an educational scheme. We are partnering with FIBSU; most of the beneficiaries were selected by the executives of the union. I want to assure others who have not benefitted that they will be considered in the future.”

In their goodwill messages, Party and community leaders, who took turn to speak at the event, commended the lawmaker, saying that they are always proud to be associated with him.

APC leader, Chief Ayo Eniade said: “I cannot but pray for the youthful lawmaker. As a commissioner, he did well. He is now doing wonders as a federal lawmaker. I once told him that he would be governor one day.”

While the state secretary of the party, Alhaji Mojeed Olaoya said the lawmaker’s gesture reminds him of his late father. According to him, “The late Lam-Adesina is not dead. With what the legislator is doing, he will continue to be relevant. All the beneficiaries must learn from what is happening today; they should try to emulate the lawmaker and empower the less privileged.”

Also speaking, Dr. Kola Balogun explained that the lawmaker has always surprised him. “This is not the first time he will be organizing something like this. I watched him closely when he was commissioner. He is just like his late father. Even in death, he is one of the true progressives we have ever had.
